What to Know About Inspections During Construction
  1. Permit Display: Keep the permit card visible until all work is finished and approved.

  2. Project Timing: Begin work within 180 days and complete within a year from the permit date
    .
  3. Approved Plans: Keep approved plans on-site at all times.

  4. Scheduling Inspections: Call for inspections at least 72 hours in advance. Find the inspection phone number and your inspector's name on your permit.

  5. Building Inspections Typically Required For:
    • Footers
    • Foundations
    • Rough framing, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical installations
    • Fire stopping
    • Insulation
    • Drywall
    • Project completion (Certificate of Occupancy)

  6. Certificate of Occupancy: Request an inspection three weeks in advance to receive this certificate.

  7. Specific Inspections:
    • Electrical and plumbing inspections are needed before enclosing walls, floors, or ceilings. Skipping these may require reopening work for inspection.
    • Heating inspections happen after completing the work.

  8. Changing Contractors: If you switch contractors mid-project, obtain new permits from the new contractor.
