The Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) advises Allentown's City Council and Administration on environmental issues and policies. It aims to promote sustainable design, renewable energies, and preserve natural resources and open land in the city. The Council consists of seven residents, with the Mayor appointing five and City Council appointing two. Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at City Hall.
The EAC seeks members passionate about conservation and environmental protection, though prior expertise is not mandatory. Ideal candidates have experience in environmental initiatives, education, or related fields. They should be willing to volunteer around 4-8 hours monthly for EAC projects and collaborate effectively with diverse viewpoints and elected officials. The EAC, established in 2008 by an ordinance, bases its advice on accepted environmental science.
