The City of Allentown is proud to announce its continued participation in the Youth Climate Action Fund for 2025.

Allentown, PA – The City of Allentown is proud to announce its continued participation in the Youth Climate Action Fund for 2025, following the successful implementation of the program. This opportunity brings an additional $100,000 to support youth-led initiatives addressing climate change and fostering sustainability.

The Youth Climate Action Fund supports individuals aged 15-24 and youth-led organizations to create impactful projects in areas such as climate change awareness, education, research, co-development initiatives, climate mitigation and adaptation strategies, and co-governance. These efforts align with Allentown’s climate priorities as the city prepares to develop its first Climate Action Plan in 2025.

Program Highlights:

  • Funding Opportunities: A minimum of 17 projects will be funded, with grant amounts ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 each.
  • Eligibility Requirements:
    • Projects must involve at least three individuals aged 15-24 who actively participate in decision-making and oversight.
    • Applicants must partner with a sponsoring organization with clear charitable goals, such as a non-profit, public agency, school, or library.
    • Projects must align with Allentown’s climate priorities.

Application Deadlines:

  • Priority Deadline: March 16, 2025
  • Final Deadline: April 6, 2025

Global and Local Impact: Globally, it is projected that by 2030, 60% of urban residents will be under the age of 18, positioning youth as key participants in shaping urban futures. This next phase of the Youth Climate Action Fund emphasizes greater ambition, more creative solutions, and the long-term integration of youth engagement into city practices through co-design and co-governance projects.

Allentown is now part of an international network of over 90 cities across five continents participating in the Youth Climate Action Fund. Together, these cities are addressing climate change challenges while fostering deeper trust and collaboration between local governments and youth.
