The City of Allentown invites the community to join its 2025 Juneteenth Celebration—a four-day series of events from Thursday, June 19 to Sunday, June 22—honoring freedom, culture, and community.

June 18, 2025 – The City of Allentown invites the community to join its 2025 Juneteenth Celebration—a four-day series of events from Thursday, June 19 to Sunday, June 22—honoring freedom, culture, and community.

 

*In recognition of the federal holiday, all City of Allentown offices will be closed on Thursday, June 19.

 

Thursday, June 19

  • Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony – 12 PM at Allentown City Hall in partnership with Resurrected Life, St. James AME, and Union Baptist Church
  • Free Cedar Beach Pool Admission – 12 to 7 PM for Allentown residents (capacity permitting)

Friday, June 20

  • Free Outdoor Movie Night: Mufasa: The Lion King – Gates open at 7:30 PM and movie begins at sunset at Cedar Beach Pool (Rain date: June 21). Free popcorn and giveaways, as supplies last.

Mufasa: The Lion King voice cast includes several prominent Black actors. In the movie, Mufasa, meets a sympathetic lion named Taka, the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of a group of misfits searching for their destiny.

Saturday, June 21

  • Empowerment Day – 12–9 PM at Cedar Beach Park
  • Live music and DJ performances in partnership with JATA X Soulful Entertainment
  • Art displays and cultural showcases
  • Food and merchandise vendors, Resources 60+
  • Spoken Word and Drill performances

Sunday, June 22

  • Family Fun Day – 12–9 PM at Cedar Beach Park
  • Games including chess and dominoes competitions
  • Tennis, Arts & Crafts for youth (12-6 PM)
  • Clown, Free Face Painting, Free Caricatures (12-6 PM)
  • Food trucks and vendors (12-9 PM)
  • Live stage programming features Dj Static & Dj Shy

 

The Juneteenth Basketball Classic is also hosted all weekend at the Cedar Beach Park basketball courts and welcomes athletes from across the region. The basketball tournaments schedule is Friday, June 20 3- 9 PM and Saturday, June 21 & Sunday, June 22 9 AM – 9PM.

 

Juneteenth—short for “June Nineteenth”—commemorates the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure all enslaved people were freed, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is considered the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States.

 

This celebration is organized by the Department of Parks and Recreation and Allentown Juneteenth Committee and made possible through collaboration with numerous community partners, sponsors, volunteers, and local organizations.
