About

Allentown’s urban forest is made up of all the trees in the city, in yards, parks, tree lawns, and more. Trees improve our lives by making Allentown a cooler, cleaner, more beautiful place to live. But trees require care to stay healthy and strong.

The City of Allentown is developing an Urban Forestry Master Plan to set a vision for its urban forest. We want to hear from you about your priorities and concerns when it comes to trees. Share your thoughts by completing this survey. Your answers will remain anonymous. All questions are optional; if you'd prefer not to answer a question, simply skip it.

Tree Inventory Underway

The City of Allentown has contracted with Davey Resource Group, Inc (DRG) to complete a citywide tree inventory which will began in September and will end by the end of January 2026. During the inventory, the contractor will locate trees and planting sites, along maintained street rights-of-way and in public parks and other city property.

During data collection, the contractor will walk by each tree and inspect the tree from the ground. Based on the conditions at the time of the inspection, each tree will be identified, rated, and assessed for risk. The contractor will collect data Monday through Friday and occasionally on weekends but will always be identifiable by their safety vest and hard hats and will carry a badge.

Urban & Community Forestry Program

In 2024, Allentown received $920,800.00 to advance the health and wellness of the urban forests, ecosystems and people of Allentown. Through the project, Allentown will complete a full inventory of the City’s Street Trees, complete an Urban Forestry Master Plan and a Species Selection Master Plan, and aim to plant 600 street trees throughout the City’s historically underinvested communities. The project is expected to continue through May 2028.
