The Special Victims Unit (SVU) is tasked with investigating crimes of an extremely sensitive nature. Most of the incidents are of a sexual nature, and involve child victims. However, their role includes physical abuse or neglect of children, ranging in severity from moderate up through and including homicide.

As it takes a special person in order to investigate these types of crimes, the detectives assigned to the Special Victims unit are highly trained and professional. They treat their victims with the utmost respect, and work very closely with the District Attorney's Office to ensure that each and every case is investigated properly and thoroughly in order to bring closure to victims and their families.
