About

The Allentown Fire Department's Special Teams are a vital part of our city's safety and emergency response. Comprised of the Bomb Squad, Haz-Mat Response Team, Technical Rescue, and Underwater Recovery Team, these specialized units are equipped and trained to handle diverse emergency scenarios.

Bomb Squad

The Bomb Squad's main job is to handle any and all dangerous explosives such as homemade bombs, suspected explosives, military ordnance and illegal fireworks. They step in to deal with bombs or explosives in our city whenever the Incident Commander asks for help. Bomb and explosive disposal services and advice are also provided to nearby places when their police, fire department, or emergency teams need help with these risky situations.

Haz-Mat Response Team

The Haz-Mat Response Team's job is to handle hazardous materials. They're ready to step in both in our city and if other places ask for their help with these dangerous materials.

Technical Rescue

The Technical Rescue Team's goal is to safely handle tough rescue situations using special gear and skills. They're trained to handle tricky situations like collapsed buildings, tight spaces, high places, and rescues in ditches or trenches.

Underwater Rescue & Recovery

The Underwater Rescue & Recovery Team is skilled in various tasks like rescuing people within an hour of the emergency or working to recover items or victims if it's been longer. They also handle jobs like searching for and bringing up things like explosives, weapons, vehicles, bodies, and evidence underwater. They're trained for different kinds of diving, including searching in dark waters or diving in moving water and icy environments.
