The Fire Academy and Training Department is dedicated to preparing firefighters and emergency response teams for their vital roles in the community. Through the Fire Academy, we design and oversee comprehensive training programs to ensure every firefighter is equipped with the knowledge and skills to respond to emergencies safely and effectively. We also collaborate with colleges, fire departments, and businesses to promote knowledge sharing and improve interagency coordination during challenging situations.

The hiring process is as follows:
Application:
1. Submit your application to the Human Resources Department during the Open Application Phase of the Civil Service process, which occurs every two years. The next Open Application Phase will be in Fall 2025.
Written Test:
2. After submitting a completed application and paying the associated fee, you will take a Civil Service written test.
Ranking and Physical Agility Test:
3. Your score on the written test will determine your ranking on the eligibility list. The top-tier candidates on this list will then be invited to take a physical agility test.
4. Veterans who meet all Veterans Preference requirements will receive 10 additional points on their score.
Interviews and Hiring:
5. When a position becomes available within the Fire Department, top-ranked candidates will be invited for interviews. Successful candidates will be hired to fill the vacancies.
