Lifeguard Certification

Course Information

The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatics emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services personnel take over.

To enroll and participate in Lifeguarding Courses participants must:

• Be at least 15 years old by the last day of the course
• Swim 300 yards continuously (front crawl and/or breaststroke)
• Tread water for 2 minutes using legs only
• Complete timed swim, surface dive, object retrieval
• Attend Entire Course
• Pass written exam with 80% score or better
