  • Snow Emergency to Begin Saturday Morning in Allentown

Mayor Tuerk will declare the Snow Emergency at 7 a.m. on Saturday, January 24. Enforcement will begin at 11 a.m.

Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk will declare a Snow Emergency at 7 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026. Per City Ordinance, the Snow Emergency will go into effect at 11 a.m., with enforcement operations beginning immediately. The Snow Emergency will support snow removal operations and ensure public safety as the City prepares for a significant winter storm.

Approximately 30 streets are designated as Snow Emergency Routes. Vehicles parked on these streets must be moved to non-snow emergency routes or the Government Parking Deck at 401 Hamilton Street, which will open for free parking at 12 a.m. (midnight) on Saturday. The Allentown Parking Authority will open more decks as needed throughout the day. All city parking decks will be made available for free parking beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Allentown Police, along with Ross Towing, will enforce no parking and tow cars as necessary. No parking on Snow Emergency Routes will be enforced until the Snow Emergency is lifted.

The City’s priority during the storm is public safety, with an emphasis on opening roads so emergency vehicles can travel safely. Snow removal will occur in phases:

  1. Snow Emergency Routes and primary roadways
  2. Secondary streets
  3. Alleys
  4. Parking lots, parks, trails, and other public spaces

City crews will begin two 12-hour shifts indefinitely, beginning Saturday until all roadways are open. We will have approximately 50 trucks covering 420 miles of roadway. Residents should note that snow may remain on streets even after plows have passed, especially on secondary streets and alleys. An “open” street means a vehicle can pass safely, even if snow or ice remains.

Public Works crews are actively prepping roadways by pre-treating with salt brine, inspecting equipment and staging trucks for deployment.

Additional impacts and important reminders:

  • Trash and recycling collection for Sunday and Monday is canceled.
  • Please stay off the roads during the storm unless necessary.
  • Do not throw snow into the street, as it creates a hazard and hinders snow plowing operations.
  • Be patient as crews work through the storm. Snow clearing operations may take several days.

Residents are encouraged to call the Snow Hotline, (610) 437-7669, for updates on snow clearing operations. Updates will be shared through official City channels including our City website and social media channels: Facebook and Instagram.
