Repaving Project in Lehigh Parkway

The entire length of Park Drive that runs through Allentown’s Lehigh Parkway will be closed to traffic from 7:00am to 3:30pm for approximately seven days beginning Monday, April 30 for a milling and repaving project.

Park Drive will be milled and paved from Jefferson Street to the Steel Bridge and on up to Vultee Street. Work will then continue over the Steel Bridge and up Park Drive to 24th St. / Oxford Drive.

It is suggested that walkers, runners and bicyclists stay off Park Drive even after work has stopped for the day because of the uneven road surface.

The work will be done by the city’s Public Works Department using its new milling machine. A $235,000 contribution from UGI will cover the cost of materials.

Trails in the Parkway will remain open during this period, but park users must use alternate parking lots that are available at the Fish Hatchery, Schreiber’s Bridge, Architects Bend and the Allentown Credit Union / Bogert’s Bridge.

Upon completion of the project, signs will be posted reminding park users of the 20 MPH speed limit along Park Drive.

Persons seeking additional information are asked to contact the Department of Parks & Recreation at 610-437-7750.
