Traud Nominated for Solicitor

Mayor Ray O’Connell is nominating Allentown attorney Thomas F. Traud, Jr. to become city solicitor.

Traud is a life-long resident of the city. He began his legal career in 1970 as Senior Law Clerk to Pennsylvania Supreme Court Chief Justice Benjamin Jones. He was once an associate in the law firm of now retired U.S. District Court Judge Edward N. Cahn.

Traud was a partner in the firm of Roberts, Traud, Wallitsch & Corkery from 1975-1991. Judge Tom Wallitsch then began 15 years on the bench of the Lehigh County Court of Common Pleas. Traud is now in a solo practice in the city with his sons, T. Benjamin and Andrew.

Traud served as solicitor for Lehigh Career & Technical Institute for 34-years and solicitor for the Lehigh County Board of Assessment Appeals for over 20-years. He served six years as an assistant Lehigh County solicitor. He is the more than 40 year chairman of the Lehigh Law Journal.

“I am proud to nominate Tom Traud as city solicitor,” said O’Connell. “He has been an outstanding attorney with decades of experience in both the private and the public sector. He will be a tremendous asset for the city. I have known Tom for a very long time and I consider it an honor to submit his nomination to City Council.”

“I am honored that Mayor O’Connell spoke to me about the solicitor position,” Traud said. “While the downtown is certainly on the upswing, city hall has seen its share of controversy. I will do my best to assist our new mayor in restoring Allentown to its previous status as the “Queen City of the Lehigh Valley.”

Traud is a graduate of Dieruff High School. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania and his legal degree at Villanova Law School.

Traud is nominated to succeed Dan McCarthy. The nomination must be confirmed by City Council.
