Pawlowski Presenting at Pittsburgh Conference
Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski will be participating as a speaker during the Highmark Foundation’s conference, “No Time to Weight: Best Practices in Childhood Obesity Prevention” at the Omni William Penn Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh on Wednesday, September 25.
Pawlowski will discuss how the city has taken steps to fight childhood obesity by doing things like offering free nutrition counseling, exercise classes for overweight youth and a youth exercise trail and the introduction of the Fruits & Veggies on the Move program, which has been recognized by the US Conference of Mayors.
“We weren’t going to sit still and not do anything to address childhood obesity issues in the city,” Pawlowski said. We developed programs and partnered with the school district and other organizations to implement them. We hope that parents and children are getting the message about how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.”
The free conference offers attendees the opportunity to hear from inspiring speakers – national, regional and local – and gain exposure to best practices in childhood obesity prevention.
According to the conference’s website, “The Highmark Foundation and its partners are proud to have assembled some of the most engaging and innovative speakers from across the country and closer to home, each representing a unique perspective on childhood obesity prevention, to provide attendees with a comprehensive look at the depth and breadth of the issue and potential solutions.”
