A Malware breach was discovered in the city's computer system on Tuesday, February 13. The city’s information systems staff determined on Wednesday, February 14 that curing the infection was going to be beyond its scope, so the city has contracted with Microsoft that has had a team on scene since Thursday, February 15.

How the city got infected is under investigation.

The city is not operating some of its systems as a precaution. The situation is under control, but it is not yet mitigated. Until it is eradicated, it has the potential to infect all city systems.

There is no reason at this time to believe that anyone’s personal information contained in city systems has been compromised.

The city has a $185,000 initial emergency contract with Microsoft. The repair to the system and installing the protection to make sure it doesn’t happen again will be an additional significant expense.
