Adventure Allentown Going to Press
Fall and winter recreation enthusiasts will learn about the multitude of leisure activities available throughout the City of Allentown in the soon to be released newest edition of Adventure Allentown. Mayor Ed Pawlowski announced today that the 2013-14 Fall/Winter edition of Adventure Allentown will be distributed city-wide starting in the first week of October.

The city’s 36 page guide to fall and winter leisure activities will be inserted in the Morning Call newspaper on Friday, October 4, sent home with all Allentown School District students, and will be available at more than 50 other locations in the city and placed in free outdoor publication racks throughout the park system.

“The city’s guide is virtually a one stop source for residents to learn about the many recreational, sporting, and cultural events happening in Allentown,” said Director of Parks and Recreation John Mikowychok. “Adventure Allentown can be used as a planning tool by every person and family making smart decisions on how to spend their leisure time to close out the year and prepare for next spring. The guide offers opportunities to improve personal fitness, re-connect with friends and family, or enjoy the many amenities that the city’s parks, trails, and cultural institutions provide,” Mikowychok added.

The Adventure Allentown guide lists special events and youth and adult programs; provides information on city parks and golf; music and theater programs; the library and museums; outdoor adventure and other useful information for city park and recreation services. The guide also contains a breakdown of park amenities, recent and upcoming park improvements, event schedules and a comprehensive list of community agencies dedicated to youth, adults and senior citizens.

“We are also pleased to announce that our Adventure Allentown guide has received the 2013 APEX Award for Publication Excellence,” said Pawlowski. “Our guide informs residents and visitors about new programs that highlight our city’s commitment to fitness, healthy lifestyles, the arts, and economic vitality through events that capitalize on our greatest assets.”

Department of Parks and Recreation Program Manager Randy Cope and other city employees combined efforts to compile the information for the 70,000 plus copy guide.

Another spring and summer guide is planned for release in March and will include the distribution of 85,000 copies.

Residents may also pick-up the Fall/Winter edition of Adventure Allentown at City Hall, the Park and Recreation offices on Parkway Boulevard and other various locations throughout the city after September 27.
