The Wire Mill Bridge at Lehigh Street and MLK, Jr. Drive in the City of Allentown will be closed for approximately three months beginning December 1, 2017.

Professional Construction Contractors Inc. of Bethlehem was awarded a $295,000 contract by the County of Lehigh to make repairs to the superstructure and open grid steel decking. This repair will extend the life of the bridge until its anticipated 2019 – 2020 replacement.

Traffic detours will be in place.

Northbound traffic will be detoured from Auburn/6th Street to west on Lehigh Street to north across the Eighth Street Bridge and east on Walnut Street.

Southbound traffic will be detoured east on MLK, Jr. Drive to south on S. 3rd Street. There will also be another southbound detour from Seventh Street to west on Union Street to south across the Eighth Street Bridge to Lehigh Street.
