The Union Street bridge construction detour will be modified for the next two weeks during reconstruction work that will be taking place on 17th Street between Hamilton Street and Walnut Street in the City of Allentown.

The detour will begin Monday, August 19 and continue for approximately two weeks.

The modified detour will be as follows: Eastbound Union Street traffic will turn north on S. 24th Street, east on SR 222/Hamilton Street, south on 15th Street, and east on Union Street. Westbound traffic will turn north on 15th Street, west on SR 222/Hamilton Street, south on S. 24th Street, and west on Union Street.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Pennsylvania is the general contractor for the $3.3 million Union Street Bridge replacement project. Funding for the project is 80% Federal, 15% State, and 5% City. The anticipated completion date is December of 2014.
