Dougherty Submits Resignation

City of Allentown Managing Director Fran Dougherty submitted his resignation today.

In a letter to Mayor Ed Pawlowski, Dougherty said, “It has been an honor to serve the City of Allentown. I wish its citizens the best as the City moves forward.”

Dougherty served two stints as managing director from June of 2006 to September of 2008 and from January 2012 until the present. Dougherty had first joined the city as director of the Department of Community and Economic Development in April 2006.

“The job of managing director is a difficult one entrusted with a lot of responsibility. Fran has been capable and reliable in his tasks of overseeing the city’s various departments and will be missed,” Pawlowski said. “We will start the task of searching for a person to fill his position immediately,” Pawlowski added.

Dougherty is a Certified City Manager with the International City/County Managers Association (ICMA).

Dougherty’s last day of employment will be May 2, 2016.
