Allentown Celebrates Recycling Day

The public is invited to celebrate America Recycles Day with the City of Allentown on Saturday, November 14 with family fun activities, arts and crafts, games, prizes and more!

The celebration will take place at the Mack South Fire Station located at 1902 Lehigh Street from 12pm-3pm.

“The celebration is an opportunity to thank residents for their continued support in reducing trash and increasing recycling,” said Manager of the Bureau of Recycling and Solid Waste, Ann Saurman.

Participants will enjoy a recycle photo booth, recycling games, face painting and holiday arts and crafts. Attendees can take the Pledge to Recycle and learn more about the importance of recycling. Food trucks and the city’s Recycling Mascot will be on hand.

Event sponsors include Wegmans and Wildlands Conservancy.

In 2014, Allentown residents recycled 6,390 tons of green bin (cans, bottles and cartons) and blue bin (cardboard and paper) material in the curbside collection program. More than 1,500 tons of materials were recycled at the Allentown Drop-Off Center.

Recycling has many rewards and benefits. It protects the environment, reduces pollution, conserves energy and our natural resources, and saves valuable landfill space. For more information about recycling visit www.allentownpa.gov.
