The City of Allentown Department of Parks and Recreation will host the first “Noches de Ritmo” evening on Saturday, May 17 at the Arts Park. The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, May 10, but has been postponed due to the threat of inclement weather. The event, which is part of a monthly summer series, will run from 4:00pm – 7:00pm and feature free, family-friendly entertainment featuring art, music and dance.
The event will include a live performance by a variety of popular local groups whose rhythms range from merengue to salsa to bolero. Performing groups include Ballet Folklorico Dominicano, Menor y Oreo, Ashley Lynn, Bolillo , Angelique and XCAPE Hip-Hop Dance.
The first 75 attendees will receive a pink or red carnation, thanks to a donation from Rich Mar Florist.
Partners on this event include La Ola Radio, Latino Espectacular, HALA (Hispanic American League of Artists), Puertorrican Culture Preservation Organization, Gata Fierra Promotions and Allentown City Council Parks and Recreation Committee Chairwoman Cynthia Mota.
The Noches de Ritmo series is scheduled for the second Saturday of each month from May through September throughout the city’s park system. Additional dates in the series include June 14 at Union Terrace Park, July 12 at West Park, August 9 at Arts Park and September 13 at Jordan Park.
