Crews began pouring the arena floor this morning at PPL Center at Seventh & Hamilton streets in Downtown Allentown!
The 315 cubic yards of concrete is bheing pumped-in from more than 30 trucks and is being poured by DJ Rossetti, Inc. of Malta, NY.
PPL Center will be the home this fall for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the American Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League's Philadelphia Flyers. The concrete is being finished with laser guided machinery to be super flat for the ice surface. The goal is that the players will not feel any difference between this surface and the surface at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
There are 12 miles of refrigerant pipes under the floor.
When completed, there will be a 17,000 sf ice floor with NHL Rize size dimensions of 200' long x 85' wide x 6' deep.
Alvin H. Butz, Inc. of Allentown is the construction manager for the project.
