Mayor Ray O'Connell and representatives of Lehigh Valley Phantoms Charities took the wraps off the Charities' Urban Greenway project this morning outside PPL Center.
More than 150 persons attended.
The project creates two-mile and one-mile trails with wayfaring throughout the city. Phantoms Charities also donated seven benches along the trails, the art work on which was done by Allentown School District students.
The city departments of Parks & Recreation, Community & Economic Development, Public Works, the police, Health Bureau, Arts Commission, Arts Committee, Lehigh County, City Center, Wildlands Conservancy and PPL Center all had a hand in the project along with Phantoms Charities.
Immediately following opening remarks, Phantoms' mascot MeLVin led participants on the first official walk on the two-mile trail.
