The City of Allentown is in receipt of a check for $132,363.00 from Cigar Factory, LLC for demolition costs incurred by the city following an October 7, 2018 fire that destroyed a former warehouse at 418 N. Franklin Street.
The check is dated February 6, 2019 and was received by the city on February 11, 2019.
Shortly after the fire, the city had set aside $1.25 million from various accounts for emergency demolition, waste removal and possible issues with asbestos on an estimate from demolition contractor Empire Services of Reading.
Empire Services performed the initial demolition for the city. Site clearing, and other related work was then left for Cigar Factory LLC and owner Nat Hyman.
