ESSA Donates Bike to APD

Allentown police bike officers are sporting new wheels!

ESSA Bank and Trust has donated a fully equipped police patrol bike to assist the department in replacing its aging bike fleet. The bike was presented to the department today at the bank’s branch in Tower 6 at 6th & Hamilton streets. A fully equipped police bike costs $2,000.

“ESSA Regional President June Webre contacted me and expressed the bank’s interest in assisting Allentown police and partnering with us in our commitment to keep everyone who lives and works downtown safe, said Chief Tony Alsleben. “This donation is an example of their genuine commitment to our downtown. The Allentown Police Department is proud to Partner with ESSA and I would like to personally thank June and the members of the bank’s board for their donation.”

“I truly appreciate the donation from ESSA Bank & Trust,” said Mayor Ray O’Connell. “We are fortunate to have a business community that steps up to meet needs across the city.”

“ESSA has a long tradition of giving to its communities, and we are excited about making this contribution to the Allentown Police Department to facilitate the purchase of a new police bike,” said June Webre, Lehigh Valley Regional President for ESSA Bank & Trust. “The new bike will assist in enabling local police to maintain the safety and security for residents and employees in Allentown, and we are proud of that.”

The 10 speed Police 19.5 Trek Black model is described as a “rugged patrol bike built exclusively for the men and women of law enforcement. Tough construction, quality components, and patrol-ready features like an included rack and kickstand make it a perfect extension of the uniform.” According to Trek, the bike’s “High-quality RockShox fork soaks up bumps on streets and trail alike, and it has a lockout feature for speed and efficiency on smooth pavement.”

The bike was purchased from Trek Bicycle Allentown.
