11/01/2023
Fall Yard Waste & Leaf Collection Schedules

The Allentown Department of Public Works has released the schedules for the 2023 Fall yard waste and leaf collection.

YARD WASTE DROP-OFF

The last day for the Yard Waste Site at 1401 Oxford Drive to be open for regular schedules is Saturday, November 18, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Yard Waste Site will also be open on Saturday, December 2, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., weather permitting.

CURBSIDE YARD WASTE RECYCLING COLLECTION

The final week of curbside yard waste collection is scheduled for the week of Thanksgiving, from Sunday, November 19 to Friday, November 24. Residents are requested to place yard waste out on their regular recycling night. Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday, yard waste collection for Thursday night recyclers is canceled on November 23. The last yard waste collection for Thursday night recyclers will occur on the night of November 30.

For further information on trash or recycling collections, please contact the Bureau of Recycling and Solid Waste at 610-437-8729 or visit our website at www.allentowpa.gov/recycle.

FALL LEAVES – Embrace Mulching

Rather than the traditional raking or blowing of leaves, consider the eco-friendly alternative of mow-mulching. This method benefits your lawn's health by leaving the mulched leaves in place. By making a few passes with your lawnmower, you can mulch the leaves, enriching the soil, and supporting the local ecosystem. Mulched leaves can also be utilized in garden beds and around shrub roots, serving as a protective layer during the winter months.

Mulching the leaves on your lawn has many rewards, including a positive impact on the natural environment. The mulched leaves provide nutrients that will help the soil and lawn, as well as support the microorganisms and insects that live in the soil.  Mulched leaves can also be used in garden beds and around shrub roots to act as a protective layer during the harsh winter months.

STREET LEAF COLLECTION SCHEDULE

District by district street cleaning of leaves will commence on Monday, October 30. Residents are kindly reminded to place leaf piles approximately a foot away from the curb, ensuring no branches, rocks, or trash/debris are mixed in. Please also keep nearby inlet or catch basin grates free of debris.

A comprehensive schedule of planned leaf collections is available at www.allentownpa.gov/Public-Works/Streets/Leaf-Removal-Program.
