2023 Movies in the Park Schedule

The City of Allentown's “Movies in the Park” series returns this year with six community-minded events at various locations across the City. The family-friendly monthly movie nights are run by the Bureau of Recreation from May through October as part of the City’s free entertainment lineup this summer.

Friday, May 19 at 8:30 p.m.: “Minions: The Rise of Gru” at East Side Memorial Park. Pre-movie activities start at 6:00 p.m. and the rain date is Saturday, May 20. Food sale proceeds at the concession stand benefit the East Side Memorial Little League.

Saturday, June 24 at 8:30 p.m.: “Black Panther Wakanda Forever” at Stevens Park. Pre-movie activities start at 6:00 p.m. and the rain date is Sunday, June 25. The movie is hosted in partnership with the Old Fairgrounds Neighborhood Association and the Ortiz Ark Foundation, who are sponsoring free food and resources for attendees at this showing.

Saturday, July 22 at 8:30 p.m.: “Top Gun Maverick” at the Union Terrace Amphitheatre. The rain date is Sunday, July 23. This unique concert and movie collaboration is run in partnership with the City’s Summer Concert Series. The movie follows a free concert by The Large Flowerheads band at 6 p.m.

Saturday, August 19 at 8:00 p.m.: “Wall-E” at Percy Ruhe Park. Pre-movie activities start at 5:30 p.m. and the rain date is Sunday, August 20. Food sale proceeds at the concession stand benefit the Allentown Central Catholic High School Mini Vikes.

Saturday, September 16 at 7:30 p.m.: “Turning Red” at the Arts Park. The rain date is Sunday, September 17. The movie is hosted in partnership with the International Cultural Festival, an all-day event at the Arts Park that starts at 11 a.m. Pre-movie night activities (specific to Movies in the Park series) start at 5:00 p.m. as a supplement to those offered by the International Cultural Festival.

Saturday, October 28 at 6:30 p.m.: “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” at Midway Manor. Pre-movie activities start at 4 p.m. and the rain date is Sunday, October 29. The movie is hosted in partnership with the Midway Manor Community Association as part of the Midway Manor Halloween at the Park event, which includes a parade, costume awards, and Trunk-or-Treat. Food sale proceeds at the concession stand benefit the Midway Manor Community Association.

The pre-movie activities at each movie night include yard games, arts and crafts stations, acoustic performances, and information and resources from several City departments. The Recycling and Solid Waste Bureau will host educational games around trash and recycling, and the Health Bureau will offer education around health services like period poverty, child immunizations, and child injury prevention.

The Allentown School District (ASD) will be at each event as part of its Countdown to Kindergarten Registration Campaign to encourage families to enroll eligible children this summer. ASD staff will be present to answer questions and share Kindergarten readiness resources. Lehigh Valley Reads will also provide free books. 

All movies will include Spanish subtitles, and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and/or snacks.

“Películas en el Parque” de la Ciudad de Allentown regresa este año con seis eventos comunitarios en varias ubicaciones de la Ciudad. Las noches de cine mensuales de familia están a cargo de la Oficina de Recreación desde mayo hasta octubre como parte del programa de entretenimiento gratuito de la Ciudad este verano.

Viernes 19 de mayo a las 8:30 p.m.: “Minions: The Rise of Gru” en East Side Memorial. Actividades antes de la película comienzan a las 6:00 p.m. y la fecha de lluvia es el sábado 20 de mayo. La venta de alimentos beneficia al East Side Memorial Little League.

Sábado 24 de junio a las 8:30 p.m.: “Black Panther Wakanda Forever” en el Parque de Stevens. Actividades antes de la película comienzan a las 6:00 p.m. y la fecha de lluvia es el domingo 25 de junio. La película se presenta en colaboración con la Asociación de Vecinos de Old Fairgrounds y la Fundación Ortiz Ark, quienes patrocinarán alimentos y recursos gratuitos a los que asisten a esta película.

Sábado 22 de julio a las 8:30 p.m.: “Top Gun Maverick” en el Anfiteatro Union Terrace. La fecha de lluvia es el domingo 23 de julio. Esta colaboración única de concierto y película es realizada en asociación con la Serie de Conciertos de Verano de la Ciudad. La película sigue un concierto gratis de la banda The Large Flowerheads a las 6 p.m.

Sábado 19 de agosto a las 8:00 p.m.: “Wall-E” en el Parque de Percy Ruhe. Actividades antes de la película comienzan a las 5:30 p.m. y la fecha de lluvia es el domingo 20 de agosto. La venta de alimentos beneficia los ACCHS Mini Vikes.

Sábado 16 de septiembre a las 7:30 p.m.: “Turning Red” en el Parque de las Artes. La fecha de lluvia es el domingo 17 de septiembre. La película se presenta en asociación con el Festival Cultural Internacional, un evento de todo el día que comienza a las 11 a.m. Actividades antes de la película (específicas de la serie) comienzan a las 5:00 p.m. como complemento a lo que ofrece el Festival Cultural Internacional.

Sábado 28 de octubre a las 6:30 p.m.: “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” en Midway Manor. Actividades antes de la película comienzan a las 4 p.m. y la fecha de lluvia es el domingo 29 de octubre. La película se presenta en asociación con Midway Manor Community Association como parte del evento Midway Manor Halloween at the Park, que incluye un desfile, premios de disfraces y Trunk-or-Treat.

La venta de alimentos beneficia la Asociación Comunitaria de Midway Manor.

Las actividades antes de la película en cada noche de cine incluyen juegos, estaciones de arte y manualidades, presentaciones acústicas e información y recursos de varios departamentos de la Ciudad. La Oficina de Reciclaje organizará juegos educativos sobre la basura y el reciclaje, y la Oficina de Salud ofrecerá educación sobre los servicios de salud como la menstruación, las vacunas infantiles y la prevención de lesiones infantiles.

El Distrito Escolar de Allentown estará en cada evento como parte de su Campaña de Inscripción de Kindergarten para alentar a las familias a inscribir niños elegibles este verano. El personal estará disponible para responder preguntas y compartir recursos de preparación. Lehigh Valley Reads también proveerá libros gratuitos.

Todas las películas tendrán subtítulos en español y se anima traer sus propias sillas, mantas y/o bocadillos.
