Golf Course Mechanic Honored

Allentown Municipal Golf Course mechanic Robert Muth is being honored as the Turfnet Technician of the Year.

The honor is based on crisis management; effective budgeting; environmental awareness; helping to further and promote the careers of colleagues and employees; interpersonal communications; inventory management and cost control; overall condition and dependability of rolling stock; shop safety; and work ethic.

Muth was nominated for the award by AMGC Superintendent Chris Reverie.

"Robert is a jack of all trades, an expert MacGyver, and the backbone of my success as a superintendent," said Reverie, a finalist for the 2020 TurfNet Superintendent of the Year Award. "His dedication on the long summer days and days off is unwavering. He is an asset to the entire city parks system and to all of the mechanics in our local association."

Reverie credits Muth for his ability to innovate and create solutions, play a leadership role on the staff, finding creative ways to meet budget and helping drive an environmental philosophy at one of the best maintained municipal courses in Pennsylvania - and beyond.

At the golf course yesterday, Muth was presented with the Golden Wrench Award from TurfNet and a $1,000 cash prize from John Deere by Ted Zabrenski, account manager for Finch Inc., a John Deere distributor covering eastern Pennsylvania.

The award has been presented annually since 2003.
