Allentown city government buildings are closed to the public.
The directive came from Mayor Ray O’Connell this afternoon after Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf issued a “Stay at Home” order for Lehigh and Northampton counties effective at 8:00 p.m.
The closings are in effect until April 6.
The governor’s order seeks to save lives and stop the spread of COVID-19 which according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health has infected 1,127 persons in Pennsylvania. There are 38 cases in Lehigh County, 18 of them in Allentown.
More than 800-persons have died in the United States from COVID-19, nearly 200 of them in New York City.
