Da Vinci to Build Science Center Downtown
Da Vinci Science Center will be building a brand-new science center on North 8th Street in Allentown.

Executive Director & CEO of the Da Vinci Science Center Lin Erickson made the announcement at an afternoon news conference at the site attended by some 125 persons.

The center would sit on approximately 1.25 acres on what is known as the Farr Lot and a small city-owned pocket park fronting Hamilton Street. The Farr Lot is owned by Butz Enterprises.

Da Vinci is working with HGA, a national architecture firm based in Minneapolis, Minn., on a concept design for the new center. It is expected to open in 2023.

Mayor Ray O’Connell said, “I am thrilled that the Da Vinci Science Center has chosen the City of Allentown as the location for its new Science Center facility. With the potential to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors annually to the downtown, we see this project as an excellent complement to the PPL Center Arena and we envision that it will greatly advance our efforts to transform downtown Allentown into a “day-out” and “night-out” destination for both residents of and visitors to the region."

Attendance is up 70% at Da Vinci’s Cedar Crest College location prompting the search to look for a second site.
