Young Persons Honored at City Hall
The 40 winners of the City of Allentown’s “Catch a Young Person Doing Something Right” campaign were honored at a reception on Thursday, February 28 in the lobby of City Hall.

Mayor Ray O'Connell presented certificates to the awardees in City Council Chambers.

Launched in 2012, the “Catch a Young Person Doing Something Right” campaign is a way to recognize young people who contribute to the well-being of Allentown.

"We are very proud to recognize such accomplished young people," said O'Connell.  "It is a privilege see and hear about their good works and acknowledge the teachers, neighbors, mentors and others who took the time to bring them to our attention."

In the category of “Going Above and Beyond” the following nine youth were honored:

• Dallanara Flores, Harmoney Lightfoot, Isabella Scheirer, Rachael Pena, Richarch DeLos-Santos, Lam Doan, Jhon Castro, Leela Rivera and Elenis Claudio

In the category of “Scholastic Achievement” the following four youth were honored:

• Jalyana Nunuez, Josiah Melendez, Julia Eschner and Nicole Luna Espinal

Two individuals and three groups were honored in the category of “Volunteerism”

• Gisselle Miranda and Jasmine Beck

• South Mountain Middle School
o Chantall Pereira-Eras, Katherine Cordero, Jasmin Reyes, Leiliani Sykes, Sophia Colon, Sarah Schweyer, Mia Hein, Mary Rodriguez and Nicole Merly
• Sew What Club
o Jenise Gonzalez, N’dia Escobales, Sherlin Cruz, Aida Penn and
Emma Vanderbilt
• Dieruff HS Basketball Team
o George Gibbs, Ralph Elias, Lavon Johnson, John Jordan, Nelson Mieles, Tavontaye Tucker, Honor Huff, Talal Jarrah, Leroy Johnson, Isiah Jetter and Daniel Quiones

Nomination forms will be available in January for consideration in 2020.
