The 20- and 25-gallon green recycling bins are back in stock at the Recycling Office at 641 S. 10th St. in Allentown.

These bins are distributed free of charge to residents for curbside recycling collection and can be picked up during business hours Monday to Friday from 8am to 4:30pm.

The City offers unlimited recycling of household plastics, papers, cardboard, glass, cans and cartons, as long as these items are not bagged and placed in city-issued recycling containers. During the time that we were out of stock, we had temporarily suspended these rules and allowed residents to use any rigid container for their recycling. Please be advised that now that the bins are back in stock, we will start enforcing this rule again. We will issue warnings, in the form of rejection notices, for the next 2 weeks, and after that we will reject any recycling that is not placed in city-issued recycling containers.

Additionally, recyclables should not be placed in plastic bags, as they will be rejected. Plastic bags interfere with the next step of processing, which sorts the recyclables on a conveyor belt system. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Any questions be directed to the Recycling office at 610-437-8729.
