November 11, 2024 – The City of Allentown is excited to announce the first in a series of public meetings for its Comprehensive Recreation, Open Space & Parks Plan (CROSP) to discuss early ideas and plans for the future of Allentown parks, open spaces, and recreational facilities.

Allentown is the third largest city in Pennsylvania with a vast park system of over 2,000 acres and 35 parks. Within the diverse socioeconomic landscape that gives Allentown its unique character, this plan aims to identify projects and recreational programs that address the City's evolving needs. In addition to the CROSP, site master plans will also be developed for three of the City’s major parks: Bucky Boyle Park, Fountain Park and Roosevelt Park.

The City has retained Simone Collins Landscape Architecture of Norristown as lead consultant and Derek Dureka and Kathleen Muller, Certified Park and Recreational Professionals, to assist the City in developing this plan.

The 16-month long public planning process will conclude in Fall 2025. The project is partially funded by a grant from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program administered by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), Bureau of Recreation and Conservation.

Public input on potential improvements to the City of Allentown’s recreation, park and open space system is critical to the success of the plan. Residents are invited to join the conversation and share their thoughts at the initial meeting on Wednesday, November 13, from 6-8 pm at the Bucky Boyle Park Training Room (10 Pump Pl).
