May 14, 2025 – The City of Allentown is reminding residents its new trash collection contract with waste hauler, J.P. Mascaro & Sons will take effect on June 1, 2025. To support a smooth transition, informational mailers have been sent to residents outlining service updates and reminding them of existing collection guidelines.

What’s Changing:

  • Yard Waste Collection: Shifting to every other week year-round, replacing the current weekly April–November schedule. Collection dates and guidelines will be included in the mailer and posted on the City’s website.
  • Holiday Schedule Adjustments: Trash collection will be affected on the night before the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Updates will be available via the City’s website and pre-recorded messages on the trash information phone line.

“We want residents to know that while the service provider is changing, their routine won’t be,” said Jessica Trobetsky, Bureau of Recycling & Solid Waste Education Manager. “We’re working closely with J.P. Mascaro to ensure a smooth and transparent handoff.”

What’s Staying the Same:

  • Collection Nights: Residents’ scheduled collection nights remain unchanged.
  • Curbside Set-Out Time: Trash and recycling should continue to be placed curbside between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM on scheduled collection nights.
  • Set-Out Limits: Up to 5 bags (30 gallons or 40 lbs each) or 2 containers (32 gallons, 70 lbs each). All trash must be bagged, either alone or within containers.
  • Bulk Item Pickup: Will continue on the second collection night of the week (Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday).

The City’s yard waste drop-off site is open from the first full week of April until the Saturday before Thanksgiving on Wednesdays from 8 AM until 4 PM and Saturdays from 8 AM until 2 PM.

To support the new Allentown contract, J.P. Mascaro & Sons is hiring:

  • CDL Class B drivers: Up to $91,000 in their first year
  • Driver helpers: Up to $61,000 in their first year

Interested applicants can learn more and apply online at jpmascaro.com/careers.

A copy of the educational mailer is also available online at allentownpa.gov/newtrashcontract. For questions about collection nights or service changes, please contact the Bureau of Recycling and Solid Waste at (610) 437-8729.
