The City of Allentown has declared a Snow Emergency starting Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 10 p.m. This will allow the City to carry out snow removal operations and ensure public safety during the winter storm. Residents are asked to move vehicles from Snow Emergency Routes, use free public parking decks, and stay off the roads unless necessary. Sunday’s trash and recycling collection is canceled and rescheduled for Wednesday, February 25, with double the normal trash allowed.
Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk has declared a Snow Emergency on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at 6 p.m. Per City Ordinance, the Snow Emergency will go into effect at 10 p.m., with enforcement operations beginning immediately. The Snow Emergency will support snow removal operations and ensure public safety as the City prepares for a significant winter storm.
Approximately 30 streets are designated as Snow Emergency Routes. Vehicles parked on these streets must be moved to non-snow emergency routes. The Allentown Parking Authority is opening all parking decks to the public for free, except for Strata, from 10 p.m. Saturday night through 6 p.m. Tuesday, February 24. Allentown Police, along with Ross Towing, will enforce no parking and tow cars as necessary. No parking on Snow Emergency Routes will be enforced until the Snow Emergency is lifted.
The City’s priority during the storm is public safety, with an emphasis on opening roads so emergency vehicles can travel safely. Snow plowing will occur in phases:
City crews will begin two 12-hour shifts indefinitely, beginning Sunday at 7 a.m., and will continue until all roadways are open. We will have approximately 50 trucks covering 420 miles of roadway. Residents should note that snow may remain on streets even after plows have passed, especially on secondary and alleys. An “open” street means a vehicle can pass safely, even if snow or ice remains.
Additional impacts and important reminders:
Residents are encouraged to call the Snow Hotline at (610) 437-7669 for updates on snow clearing operations. Updates will be shared through official City channels including our City website: allentownpa.gov/snow and social media channels: Facebook and Instagram.
