Allentown City Council held a special meeting this evening to consider the City’s 2026 Budget.

During the meeting, City Council voted on the budget submitted by the Mayor, which includes a 3.96% real estate tax increase and a $140 increase to the annual trash fee. The ordinance adopting the Mayor’s proposed budget passed by a 4–3 vote.

In addition to the budget vote, Councilman Jeremy Binder announced his intention to introduce a forthcoming resolution focused on strengthening the City’s budget process. The resolution will seek to clearly define two key issues moving forward: what procedural steps occur if a similar budget situation arises again, and what the consequences are if a budget agreement is not reached.

The proposed resolution will direct a review of Allentown’s budgetary process, including communication practices and alignment with best practices, with the goal of improving clarity, transparency, and understanding for all parties involved.

The resolution is expected to be introduced at the January 21st City Council meeting.
