Crime Prevention

The mission of the Crime Prevention Unit is to build partnerships between the Allentown Police Department and the community, to empower citizens through crime prevention education, and to promote an environment in which people act individually and collectively to prevent crime and build safer communities. The Allentown Police Department has a certified Crime Prevention Officer who is highly trained in many areas of crime prevention, including personal safety, senior safety, workplace violence prevention, robbery prevention, drug related education, and home security. The Crime Prevention Unit is available to assist business owners, residents, and neighborhood groups in the area of crime prevention; and work with other members of the Allentown Police Department to address neighborhood issues and facilitate problem-solving methods.

 

Alarm registration: Business owners and residents must register their alarm with Allentown Police Department. Title 7, Article 1781 of the Codified Ordinance of the City of Allentown states "All alarm systems are required to be registered with the City of Allentown". Chec-Mate program: All citizens are welcome to join the program to report suspicious or criminal activity you observe. Sign up to become a Chec-mate and receive your Chec-Mate number. Once you have the number, you can contact 911 or Communication Center (610-437-7751) to report any activity you feel is suspicious or a crime is occurring and give only your Chec-Mate number. No other identification is necessary. Contact Crime Prevention Unit to become a Chec-Mate member.

 

 

Bike registration: All residents that have a bicycle can register it with the Allentown Police Department. This aids in recovering your bike if it would ever be stolen. Don't become a victim of a theft. Lock up your bike and register it with the Crime Prevention Unit.
