Program Description: The purpose of the cancer prevention activities is to collaborate with local hospitals and community agencies to increase awareness about cancer in our community, and to promote ways in which individuals can protect themselves from cancer through prevention and/or early detection.
The Cancer Prevention Program provides free education programs to address cancer issues in our community. The goal of these services is to reduce incidence (number of new cases developed) and mortality (number of deaths) of those cancers that have been identified as preventable or more successfully treated if detected early. The program focuses on the most common forms of cancer – breast, cervix and gynecologic, colon/rectum, ovarian, prostate and skin.
