About

The Bureau of Planning and Zoning is a part of the Department of Community and Economic Development. It provides guidance and effective management for the growth, preservation, and redevelopment of the City of Allentown.

The Bureau develops and implements long-term plans and policies to steer the city's growth and development in a sustainable and equitable manner. Featured projects include the Vision2030 Comprehensive Plan, the ZONE Allentown rewrite, and other initiatives aimed at achieving the city’s housing, accessibility, connectivity, services, amenities, and sustainability objectives.

We also assess development across the city with a focus on promoting inclusive and equitable growth and opportunity, thereby enhancing the quality of life and improving livability in the City of Allentown. The Planning & Zoning Bureau’s responsibilities include overseeing and directing all planning and zoning activities, such as:

  • Comprehensive planning, community, and long-range planning
  • Land Development & Subdivision
  • Zoning
  • Historic Preservation
  • Floodplain management
