Effective March 18, 2020 all City of Allentown Department of Parks and Recreation organized field and pavilion rentals at city facilities are suspended until May 1, 2020.

The effort to stop the spread of COVID-19 is resulting in some City of Allentown service disruptions.

As a result of Pennsylvania Governor Wolf's directive regarding the COVID-19 virus, the scheduled traffic detour for the West Gordon Street Bridge Replacement project has been postponed and will not be implemented on Monday, March 23.

Allentown municipal government buildings remain open for the general public to conduct business with the city however, the public is urged to conduct as much of that business as possible on-line or through the mail.

Following consultation with Allentown Mayor Ray O’Connell and the city health bureau, the Allentown St. Patrick’s Parade Committee has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s parade and all related events due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Effective Friday, March 13 the City of Allentown Parks & Recreation Department is closing three, year-round restroom facilities that do not have running water available. 

The city of Allentown Stormwater Bureau will begin construction of a Best Management Practice Stormwater Management Basin at the lawn island at the intersection of 6th Street and Sumner Avenue on Monday, March 16.

The bridge on West Gordon Street and over Jordan Creek in the City of Allentown is expected to be closed for eight months for reconstruction beginning on Monday, March 23.

Two city of Allentown programs will be recognized next month with a Governor’s Award for Local Government Excellence.
