Car Seat Check Event Scheduled
In recognition of Child Passenger Safety Week, the Allentown Health Bureau, Lehigh Valley Health Network and Capital Blue Cross will conduct a car seat correct use check event on Wednesday, September 18 from 10am-1pm at America on Wheels, 5 North Front Street in Allentown. This is a free service and is open to families regardless of residency or income. Families are asked to drive their vehicles to the check event with their child or children in their current car seat(s) to receive the service. The car seat check-up and education takes about 30-45 minutes.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, in 2010, more than 1200 children 14 years and younger died as a result of motor vehicle crashes. For the year, motor vehicle crashes were the leading cause of injury death for children ages 5 -14.

“Unfortunately, we are still seeing too many unbuckled children in vehicles or children not properly secured in car seats,” said Jim Carlisle, Allentown Health Bureau Injury Prevention Manager. “For those children who are in car seats in the vehicle, child passenger safety experts tell us that three out of every four car seats are improperly installed. The car seat check event is a great opportunity to have your car seat checked to see if it is safely secured. This could be a life saver for your child.”

Call 610-402-CARE (2273) to register for an appointment. For more information, please call the Allentown Health Bureau at (610) 437-7598.
