AFD Welcomes New Firefighters

Seven new firefighters will be on the job in the Allentown Fire Department. They were among the graduates of the Allentown Fire Academy who were honored during a ceremony today at the City’s Mack South Fire Station.   

New Allentown firefighters Brandon Richetta, James Mcguire, Joseph Hottenstein, Leonard Waller, Leroy Bachert III, Pedro Santana, and William Schafer were presented with their badges, and each received graduation certificates. 

The addition of the seven new firefighters brings the total strength of the department to 129 firefighters. The department answered nearly 13,000 calls in 2021.

The firefighters received classroom instruction, intense physical training and participated in hands-on drills. They obtained national certifications as firefighters, and drivers and operators of pumper and aerial vehicles. Other certifications include emergency medical technician, basic vehicle, water and elevator rescues and hazardous materials operations.

The new Allentown firefighters begin a two-week orientation working with each platoon and each station starting Monday, June 27.

The academy class also includes seven graduates who are joining the Easton City Fire Department.

 

Siete nuevos bomberos estarán trabajando en el Departamento de Bomberos de Allentown. Estaban entre los graduados de la Academia de Bomberos de Allentown que fueron honrados durante una ceremonia hoy en la Estación de Bomberos Mack South de la Ciudad.

Los bomberos nuevos de Allentown Brandon Richetta, James Mcguire, Joseph Hottenstein, Leonard Waller, Leroy Bachert III, Pedro Santana y William Schafer recibieron sus insignias y cada uno recibió certificados de graduación.

La incorporación de los siete nuevos bomberos eleva la dotación total del departamento a 129 bomberos. El departamento respondió casi 13,000 llamadas en 2021.

Los bomberos recibieron instrucción en el aula, entrenamiento físico intenso y participaron en simulacros prácticos. Obtuvieron certificaciones nacionales como bomberos, conductores y operadores de autobombas y vehículos aéreos. Otras certificaciones incluyen técnico médico de emergencia, vehículos básicos, rescates de agua y ascensores y operaciones con materiales peligrosos.

Los nuevos bomberos de Allentown comienzan una orientación de dos semanas trabajando con cada pelotón y cada estación a partir del lunes 27 de junio.

La clase de la academia también incluye siete graduados que se unirán al Departamento de Bomberos de la Ciudad de Easton.
