Mayor Ed Pawlowski has appointed William Harvey as Director of the Bureau of Building Standards and Safety.

Harvey came to the city in January 2009 as Plumbing and Mechanical Inspector. He was promoted in April 2010 to Construction Codes Superintendent, supervising a staff of inspectors and permit technicians. He was responsible for reviewing all residential and commercial plans for UCC compliance and City of Allentown code requirements.

Harvey retired from the city in July 2016, but returned this past July to serve as Plans Examiner.

“We were very fortunate to have Bill come back to us with all his experience,” said Pawlowski. “He will be a fantastic leader of the bureau.”

Harvey said, “I would like to thank Mayor Pawlowski for the opportunity to lead the bureau. I am very pleased to be a part of the team as we all work toward the continued growth and success of the city.”

Harvey began his new job today. The director position pays $75,500 annually.
