The Eighth Street Bridge in the City of Allentown will be closed on Friday, August 7.

Northbound traffic will be shutdown from 9am to 3pm and detoured on St. John, South Sixth, West Wyoming, South Fifth, Auburn, Lehigh, Union, South Sixth and Linden streets. Access will be maintained for pedestrians and emergency vehicles.

PennDOT has also announced that northbound traffic on a daily basis will experience 15-minute full closures of the bridge for the foreseeable future.

The southbound lane has been closed since the May 2014 start of the more than $18MM project to rehabilitate the bridge that traverses the Little Lehigh Creek, Norfolk Southern Rail Road, Harrison Street, Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Fountain Park.
