Event Details: Dir.
Ridley Scott, 1979, Rated R, 1 hour and 57 minutes, DCP. Coming to Civic, for a
one-night-only 40th Anniversary screening, Ridley Scott's Gothic
Horror-in-Space classic, Alien, which kicked off one of the most popular film
franchises in history and has lost none of its power to amaze and terrify over
the past few decades. In deep space, the crew of the commercial starship
Nostromo is awakened from their cryo-sleep capsules halfway through their
journey home to investigate a distress call from an alien vessel. It's this
seemingly simple diversion that will ultimately lead to a close encounter with
unfathomable terror. Seemingly inspired by Mario Bava's interplanetary shocker
Planet of the Vampires and boasting haunting, Oscar-winning effects work by a
team that included Swiss painter H.R. Giger and make-up wiz Carlo Rambaldi
(E.T., Possession), Alien is a bonafide tour de force any which way you watch
it. On the big screen, however, it's a flat-out experience! Don't miss your
chance to see it at the Nineteenth Street Theatre, on a towering screen, with a
booming sound system to amplify every creak, drip, hiss, and scream, and on the
exact day it was initially released in theaters back in 1979. Alien will be
projected on DCP.
