Parks & Recreation Offer Swim Lessons

Did you know that according to Center for Disease Control statistics, participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent?

Drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death behind motor vehicle crashes for those 1-14 years of age. Learning to swim is a vital life skill to keep individuals safe around all bodies of water and lessons are available this summer from the Allentown Department of Parks & Recreation.

The department encourages you to come in and register for swimming lessons today. In addition to normal business hours, the Recreation Office located at 3000 Parkway Blvd. will be open on Wednesdays from 4:30pm to 8:30pm and Saturdays from 9:00am to 1:00pm for learn to swim registrations.

The City of Allentown Parks and Recreation Department offers a Learn to Swim program for youth ages 3 through 13. This nine week program runs 30 minute classes once a week on Wednesday evenings or Sunday mornings from June 24 through August 22 at Mack Pool. Resident registration is $50.00 per child. Non-Resident registration is $100.00 per child. Proof of Residency is required in the form of a driver’s license, photo ID or school issued ID.
