Allentown Police Chief Glen Dorney is retiring from the department and has accepted the job of police chief of South Whitehall Township.

Dorney’s last day with the city will be Friday, April 6.

Dorney joined the department in 1997. He was promoted to sergeant in November 2005 and lieutenant in January 2010. Dorney was promoted to captain in September 2012 and had served as assistant chief before being appointed interim chief of the department in March 2017.

Dorney succeeds John Christman as South Whitehall’s chief. The 25-year member of the department left the township for Lehigh Valley Health Network in January.
