Pawlowski Takes Oath for Fourth Term

Ed Pawlowski took the oath of office this evening for his fourth consecutive term as mayor of the City of Allentown.

The oath was administered by Magisterial District Judge Rashid Santiago before a standing room only crowd of about 125 persons in City Council Chambers.

In a 15 minute address to the crowd, Pawlowski said he was “humbled by so many of you who have put their faith and trust in me and have elected me to serve you once again as mayor.”

Pawlowski expressed his willingness to work with the seven members of City Council. “I am looking forward to working with you both individually and collectively in the coming term. Now that this long fought election process is over, and we're no longer counting ballots, we can start counting what unites us…the causes we believe in and the challenges we will tackle together, as a community. We may not always agree on how that should be done, but we do agree on the basic premise of making Allentown a better place to live for our residents, a better place to work and do business and a better place to play for those who visit our City.”

Pawlowski was critical of the politics in Washington and Harrisburg where there is no appetite for compromise. “It has all created a type of ‘boogeyman’ politics, motivated by unfounded fears and discrimination against our most vulnerable citizens. But to the residents of Allentown I say this…Rest assured…..danger doesn’t lurk in our public restrooms. Our Latino brothers and sisters are not criminals and our local police officers have far more important things to do than act as immigration agents. In these troubling times, I believe the way we conduct ourselves as leaders of major American cities is being looked upon like never before.”

Pawlowski said if everyone works together, a new foundation will be set for the city. “I am inspired every day by the people of our city …by your hopes, by your dreams, by your determination. I am listening. I will keep on listening. And through our collective hard work we will continue on a path to a better tomorrow. I am proud to be your mayor. Thank you for your confidence and encouragement. Thank you Allentown and may God bless our city.”
