Preview Weekend at Cedar Beach Pool

Allentown’s Cedar Beach Pool is finished and will open to city residents free of charge this weekend!

“It has been a long haul to overcome the setbacks and get the project completed,” said Mayor Ed Pawlowski. “The walls are plaster, so the pool is never emptied. The weather is going to be warm, and the pool has passed all the necessary inspections, so I want to give our residents an opportunity to enjoy it, or just come out to see it, even if it is only for this weekend.”

The pool will be open from 12 noon to 7pm on Saturday, October 7 and Sunday, October 8. It is open to city residents and employees of the City of Allentown only. Identification, like a driver’s license, city I-D or school I-D, is required for admission.

Lifeguards will be on duty.

The new pool is ADA accessible and has new zero depth and stair entries. There are new drop and tube slides and climbing walls. There is a new intermediate area, a lap/general swimming area and a new tot area.

The pool’s construction began in the spring of 2016, but was delayed by a series of unforeseen conditions. They include the discovery of pool house foundation issues that needed to be repaired. Excavation uncovered additional prior pool walls and concrete that had to be removed fully or partially. That impacted design in terms of the pool’s plumbing.

The pool was constructed by MidAtlantic Construction & Design Associates of Trenton, New Jersey.

Preview Weekend at the pool will also include a showing of “Finding Dory” on the city’s outdoor movie screen on Saturday. The Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures film will begin at dusk approximately 7pm). Food will be sold by Walking Taco food truck.
