Work is scheduled to begin Monday on a $1.8 million project to repair and resurface Tilghman Street between 10th and Front streets in the city. The announcement was made yesterday by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf.
“Tilghman Street is used by thousands of motorists each day, so I’m pleased that it will be resurfaced for better traveling conditions for the public,” the governor said.
The effected section of Tilghman Street has an average daily traffic volume that varies between 10,600 and 12,350 vehicles.
Beginning Monday and lasting throughout the duration of the project, motorists should be alert for lane restrictions weekdays between the hours of 7am and 9pm. Updates will be provided whenever schedules change.
Under this improvement project, the contractor will mill off the existing roadway surface and repave the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface. They will also replace existing curb ramps with new Americans with Disabilities Act compliant ramps. All work on the project is expected to be complete in July 2017.
J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Pa. is the general contractor on the $1,846,363 project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds.
