New Police Officers Sworn-in
Five new City of Allentown police officers were introduced late this morning during a swearing-in ceremony in City Council chambers.

Mayor Ed Pawlowski administered the oath of office to officers Laurance Harris of Northampton, Jordan Smith of Catasauqua, Luiz Garcia of Reading, Jacoby Glenn of Middleburg, Pa. and Mark Christenson of Bethlehem.

Glenn and Christenson will be attending the Allentown Police Academy. Harris, Smith and Garcia are already Act 120 certified and will be undergoing in-house training.

Pawlowski advised the new officers to listen attentively to the teachings of their instructors. “Being a police officer is a tough job, but it is also extremely rewarding. You don’t hear it often enough, but please take with you the fact that we appreciate your efforts.”

Police Chief Roger MacLean welcomed the officers to the department. “You are now members of one of the top police departments in the state,” MacLean said. “To the members of your immediate family and friends, I want you to know that these officers will be provided with the highest level of training and the most advanced tools so that they can be on the job in the safest manner.”

Officer Harris served four years in the US Marine Corps and has attended Northampton Community College and Temple University. He is a graduate of the Allentown Police Academy.

Officer Smith is a graduate of the Lackawanna College Police Academy.

Officer Garcia is a graduate of the Norfolk Police Academy. He holds an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from St. Leo University. He served five years in the US Navy.

Officer Glenn served five years in the US Army. He is attending Harrisburg Area Community College majoring in Criminal Justice.

Officer Christenson earned a BA in American Studies from Penn State Berks. He served four years in the US Marines.

The two additions increase the department compliment to 211 officers.
